How couples therapy works
Understand the pattern, not just the argument.
Most couples aren't fighting about the dishes. Michelle helps you see the cycle you get caught in, what each of you needs underneath it, and how to respond to each other differently.
Attachment-based work
Understanding how past experiences shape the way you each reach for, and pull away from, the people you love.
CBT & DBT tools
Practical strategies for communicating calmly, handling conflict and managing big emotions in the moment.
IFS & narrative therapy
Exploring the parts of you and the stories behind your reactions, so change lasts beyond the session.
Solution-focused & strength-based
Building on what already works between you, with clear, practical goals for the changes you both want.

Questions
Common questions from couples
Do we need to be in crisis to start couples therapy?
No. Many couples come in when the same patterns keep repeating and they want to understand why. Starting earlier often makes the work easier.
What if my partner isn't sure about therapy?
That's common. A consultation is a low-pressure way to see if it feels right, and you can also start with individual sessions.
Do both partners need to attend every session?
Most sessions are together, though Michelle may occasionally meet with each partner individually as part of the process.
Can we do sessions online?
Yes. Michelle offers secure online sessions anywhere in Alberta, as well as in-person sessions at the Brentwood clinic in NW Calgary.
Is it too late if trust has been broken?
Not necessarily. Michelle works with couples navigating trust and betrayal, and with couples unsure whether their relationship can be repaired.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans cover sessions with a Registered Social Worker. Check your policy for any requirements before your first appointment.
